POLICE: Driver was actively watching Youtube when he hit tow truck operator

A truck driver is facing multiple charges after running over a tow truck operator on a Kentucky interstate while watching Youtube.

The accident happened in Bath County, Kentucky on I-64 early on Wednesday evening, September 25th.

According to KCBD 11, 54-year-old Troy Caldwell was loading a vehicle onto his tow truck when a westbound semi truck hit him. Caldwell was pronounced desd at the scene a short time later. 29-year-old truck driver Shodmon Yuldashev was arrested after police found a tablet on his dashboard during theur investigation.

Yuldashev has been accused of attempting to power off and hide the tablet during the inspection, leading to at least one charge of tempering with physical evidence. Kentucky State Police believe that Yuldashev was actively watching Youtube at the time of the fatal crash.

“He was ‘Mr. Safety,’ I mean, he was always double checking and re-checking, always decked out in fluorescent gear, I mean, he was the one you’d want to be the front man for your safety meeting,” fellow tow truck driver, Bubba Johnson, said of Caldwell.

“Troy’s just a nice guy, always willing to do anything that you asked him to do,” said Morehead Police Chief Derrick Blevins. “He’d go above and beyond on accident scenes, so it’s a tough loss for everybody.”
